LAHORE: The Punjab police are considering allocating a major portion of welfare funds for policemen, their widows and children as part of morale boosting.

No proposal is under consideration to stop scholarship fund for the education of police employees’ children while another higher education financing scheme from welfare funds is also under discussion at the authorities level.

According to a handout, the educational scholarship scheme, including fee, admission fee, registration fee and hostel charges is functional.

In first eight months of current year, an amount of Rs87 million has been distributed among 2,825 employees under scholarship head of their children whereas in the corresponding period of 2013, children of as many as 5,006 employees were given Rs145m.

Similarly, an amount of Rs452m of police welfare fund has been distributed among 12,508 officials under various heads including education in the first eight months of 2014.

According to the break-up, an amount of Rs132m has been distributed among 4,015 officials under maintenance head; Rs105m among 2,412 officials under dowry; Rs19.7m among 395 officials under funeral head, Rs30m among 30 officials under martyred head; Rs41m among 1,716 officials under health welfare, and Rs 37m have been distributed among 1,115 officials under last salary head.
