CAPE TOWN: Seam bowler Vernon Philander returned from injury to be included on Tuesday in South Africa’s One-day International squad for series in New Zealand and Australia, while batsman J.P. Duminy will captain the Twenty20 team for the first time.
Philander is the only addition to the one-day squad that won the recent triangular event in Zimbabwe earlier this month.
All-rounder Philander replaces seamer Mthokozisi Shezi in the 15-man touring party as selectors assess their options ahead of the 50-over World Cup to be co-hosted by those two countries early next year.
South Africa will also host West Indies in a five-game ODI series in January.
The squad for the T20 games was also announced on Tuesday.
The T20 side will be captained by Duminy with regular skipper Faf du Plessis rested.
South Africa opted to rest senior players Du Plessis, AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn for the T20s to keep them focused on ODIs.
