KARACHI: At least six people were killed on Tuesday in separate incidents of violence in Karachi while a Crime Investigation Department (CID) DSP, Chaudhry Safdar, narrowly escaped a gun attack on his vehicle near Lyari expressway in Garden area of the city.

DSP Chaudhry Safdar was travelling near Lyari expressway in Karachi's Garden area when motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

The guards of the police officer resorted to retaliatory firing, critically wounded one of the attackers who was subsequently arrested.

The CID officer remained unhurt in the attack while the wounded attacker was shifted to Civil Hospital.

The attacker's accomplice managed to escape from the scene.

In another incident, a shopkeeper was killed while resisting a robbery attempt in Zaman Town area of Korangi.

Area residents apprehended the fleeing dacoit and subjected him to violence which resulted in his death.

Another two persons were killed in separate incidents of violence in Baldia Town Sector 4/D and Gulshan-i-Hadeed areas of the provincial capital city.

Meanwhile two bodies were recovered from the city's Rexor drain in Pak Colony area and near the railway tracks in the Kala Pul area,

On the other hand, Sindh police claimed to have arrested four suspected hitmen who were allegedly involved in incidents of target killing in the city's East and Central districts.

Police also claimed to have arrested a dacoit who was also wanted for murder.
