QUETTA: At least two people were killed and 15 others injured when an explosion occurred in Balochistan’s Sibi town on Saturday, police said.

Muhammad Afzal, a police official, told Dawn.com that unknown militants had planted a bomb in a motorcycle parked on the Chakar road area of the city.

"The bomb went off with a loud explosion," he said.

Rescue workers and police were quick to arrive at the scene and shift the injured persons to Civil Hospital Sibi, where an emergency was also imposed.

The doctors described condition of two of the injured persons as serious. "All the victims are civilians," Afzal said.

He said that security forces were on a routine patrol when the blast took place.

The blast was heard far and wide causing panic among the people. The intensity of the blast also smashed the glasses of nearby houses and shops.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
