NOWSHERA: The Umma Welfare Trust has announced Rs150 million for rehabilitation of the flood affected people of Punjab.

The trust’s chairman Maulana Mohammad Idrees told mediapersons here on Monday that in the first phase packed food items would be sent to the affected areas, while in the second phase, items like flour, ghee, rice, pulses would be dispatched to the flood-hit people. “The trust would also start a campaign to provide hygiene kits and Eid gifts to the calamity hit population to help them avoid diseases and celebrate eid with religious fervour,” he maintained.

Mr Idrees feared that flood damage in Sindh would also be the same, saying that they would try their best to support the affected people with the same spirit as demonstrated in 2010 floods in Nowshera district.

The NGO chief said that the trust had sent various teams to the affected areas soon after the floods to assess the damages so the people could be properly helped out. — Correspondent
