13 polio cases detected in a day

ISLAMABAD: As many as 13 new cases of polio were confirmed on Tuesday by the Polio Virology Laboratory of the National Institute of Health, taking the total number of cases detected this year to 158.

An official of the Prime Minister’s Monitoring and Coordination Cell for Polio said that seven of the cases were reported from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), three from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and one case each from Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan.

In 2012, he said, a total of 58 polio cases had been reported and in 2013 as many as 93 cases.

The laboratory confirmed on Tuesday that one-year-old Shaqiba, daughter of Rangeen, was experiencing the onset of paralysis. The girl is a resident of Milward village of Khyber Agency. Thirty-month-old Mustafa, son of Saifullah, also belongs to the Milward village of Khyber Agency and is suffering from the same disease.

The other children suffering from the disease are: 29-month-old Riaz, son of Ismail, a resident of Sara Cheena, Bara tehsil, Khyber Agency; 12-month-old Akhtar Bilal, son of Hazrat Ullah, a resident of Asad Khel village, Razmak tehsil, North Waziristan Agency (NWA); 30-month-old Abdul Basir, son of Akhtar Jan, a resident of Shoi Khel village, Razmak tehsil, NWA; 10-month-old Hameed Ullah, son of Taveez Khan, a resident of Azam Warsak, Wana tehsil, South Waziristan Agency (SWA); nine-month-old Malalai, daughter of Sher Badshah, a resident of Shin Warsak village, Wana tehsil, SWA; two-year-old Umia, daughter of Tajar Khan, a resident of Dandikot village, Totali tehsil, Buner district, KP; 18-month-old Saira, daughter of Noor Wali, a resident of Dandikot village, Totali tehsil, Buner district, KP; 13-month-old Sabeela, daughter of Tariq, a resident of Karyana Kalu Parrangi village, Tank district, KP; 18-month-old Kubra, daughter of Ghulam Yasin, a resident of Majoka village, Darya Khan tehsil, Bhakkar district, Punjab; eight-month-old Muzammil, son of Abdul Manan, a resident of Abad-1 village, Chaman tehsil, Qilla Abdullah district; and 22-month-old Rafia, daughter of Ghulam Ishaque, a resident of Mir Muhammad Goth, Manghopir, Karachi.

Come on Pakistan. Wake up and put an end to a dreadful disease which might make a comeback in your country. Just like the people who stood to their ground in refusing a seat for a minister who held the plane for his late arrival maybe some of you must stand against the terrorists who are hurting the next generation of children who might succumb to this disease

Pakistani Rulers and Opposition and the Dharna Guys all are equally to be blamed for this Govt a little more but as Fata and KP have been the biggest source of this virus the KPK Govt and PTI leaders cannot wash-up their hands of this problem. Do wake -up, these are the real issues, or be ready to face complete isolation from the civilized world.

Indians often worry about pakistan exactly for these kind of news only. We have defeated polio and because of the recklessness of our brother, we may lose the battle. What to say about the pain when Islam/Quran are mauling our blood brothers while we watch helplessly!!!!

KP govt is fully responsible for the fast spread of polio. They have not done anything to prevent the spread. While their Dharnas in Islamabad has isolated Pakistan economically and politically, the PTI and Taleban are working together to ensure that Pakistan is cordoned off completely. Travel restrictions will grow in intensity and very soon one day no Pakistani will be allowed to set foot on an international flight. Before that, the federal govt. must take action and ban travel in and out of KP.
