Sikh trader gunned down in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A Sikh trader from Peshawar’s Sikh community was gunned down in Nothia, an area in the Gulberg neighbourhood in Peshawar.

Station House Office (SHO) Gulberg Police Station Riaz Ali Shah said the trader was a resident of Dabgari was fired upon at the grocery shop he ran in Nothia in Peshawar Cantonment.

The man died on the spot and his attackers who have not yet been identified managed to flee the area.

The body was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital from where it will be moved to the Khyber Medical College for an autopsy.

Police is investigating the circumstances around the incident and motives of the attackers.

On August 6, members of Peshawar’s Sikh community had come under attack with one killed and two injured in a firing incident. The attackers had targeted traders as they opened fire on three shops in a market in Hashnagri in Peshawar.

Last month’s attack had led to protests from members of the community who have demanded protection from the government.


Three killed in land dispute on Peshawar’s outskirts


Three people were killed when rival groups exchanged fire on Warsak Road on the outskirts of Peshawar.

The incident took place in Darmangi village in the precincts of the Mathra police station when the groups disputing over land opened fire on one another.

Two people died on the spot while one injured man succumbed to his injuries at the Lady Reading Hospital.

Police arrested two men with weapons from the hospital premises and started an investigation.
