ISLAMABAD: A robbery victim was allegedly beaten by Industrial Area police and later was booked in a fake case, Dawn has learnt from police officials.

Assistant inspector general of police Dr Sultan Azam Temuri, however took notice of the incident and issued a show cause notices to the Industrial Area SHO inspector Qasim Niazi, duty officer and Moharar.

Besides, he also asked SP Liquat Hayat Niazi to investigate the matter and submit a report within a week.

Earlier, a gang of robber raided at a mobile phone shop, located close to the police station and looted Rs300,000 in cash and mobile phones worth Rs250,000 and escaped.

The police were informed immediately, but they took almost an hour to reach the spot.

The victim Kamran Malik told Dawn that he made attempts to lodge a complaint with the police but they refused to entertain him.

The police were of the view that they would first verify the occurrence of the crime then register a case.

The reply of the police annoyed the victim and other shopkeepers of the area who later blocked the road and staged a protest against the police, he said, adding that they also chanted slogans against the police.

The SHO called them at police station on the pretext of registration of the case but allowed only three persons to enter the police station, he said, adding that the SHO abused the complainants and later started beating them.

Later, he called his sub-ordinates who also beat them, he said, adding that as a result his arms and fingers were broken, while Chaudhry Qaism, a bakery owner, and Chaudhry Qamar Aftab, a property dealer also suffered injuries.

Later the SHO got a fake case registered against them for creating law and order by blocking the road and damaging the public and private property, he added.

AIG Temuri when contacted said he had received a complaint against the policemen and ordered an inquiry.
