KARACHI: The ceremony to present Commissioner Karachi Sports Awards for 2013 will be tentatively held on Sept 10. This was decided in a meeting of the committee entrusted with the task to pick the best from amongst the nominees on Wednesday.

The meeting, chaired by Nasir Mahmood, was informed that the ceremony is likely to take place either at the Chief Minister or the Governor House subject to their availability.

The committee has already shortlisted the sportspersons for the proposed awards — six main and four subsidiaries.

The main awards carries a sum of Rs1,00,000 apiece and shields while the subsidiaries one are entitled to get Rs50,000 and shields.

The meeting discussed at length the financial aspects of the cash awards as well as the ceremony that is likely to be attended among others by the dignitaries, businessman and sports personalities.

The members deliberated upon various options of sponsorship, particularly, through elite businessmen, who will be invited to come and repay the debt to outstanding youth of the city.

The list of successful award winners is expected to be finalised in the next meeting of the committee at the Commissioner House on Sept 3.

It is pertinent to mention that the Commissioner Karachi Sports Awards were instituted in March for those sportspersons who have excelled in domestic competitions from Jan 1 to Dec 31, 2013, and knocking at the door to earn national colour by the Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, who has a passion for sports.
