Federal Areas end Punjab’s winning run

KARACHI: Federal Areas ended Punjab’s winning streak in the fifth NBP Disabled T20 Pentangular Cup in Multan when they eased to a comfortable 55-run triumph on a busy Wednesday during which four matches were decided.

After opting to bat first at the District Sports Ground, Federal Areas piled up a competitive 160-5 in their 20 overs. Mohammad Asif hit an unbeaten 44 off 55 deliveries while Altaf Ahmed struck a brace of fours in his 38-ball 24. Punjab skipper and left-arm paceman Abdullah Ijaz took two wickets for 27 runs.

Punjab, who have won all its three matches, were restricted to 105-6 in reply with Abdullah Ijaz scoring a 43-ball 37 with three hits to the fence and Khalid Mahmood remaining undefeated on 28 (36 balls, two boundaries). Left-arm seamer Mohammad Abdullah claimed three wickets for only 11 runs.

Meanwhile, in another match Balochistan outclassed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by nine wickets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, batting first, were dismissed for 93 in at the start of the penultimate over of their innings. Wajid Alam batted gallantly to score 46 in a 40-ball knock featuring two sixes and as many fours. Slow left-armer Mohammad Ameer captured 3-17.

Opener Matloob Qureshi then banged four boundaries in his 44-ball 52 as Balochistan won the match in the 15th over. Adnan Waqar made a 40-ball 31 (three fours) in the unfinished partnership of 82 with Matloob.

Balochistan completed a good day in the office by cantering to an eight-wicket triumph against Federal Areas.

Chasing 121 in a game curtailed to 16-overs-per-side, Balochistan were home in 12 overs with Matloob (35 off 21 balls, four fours), Mohammad Samiullah (32 off 23, four fours) and skipper Jahanzaib (an unbeaten 33 off 24, four fours and one six) making useful contributions.

Slow left-armer Fayyaz Ahmed grabbed a hat-trick as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa clinched an exciting five-run victory over holders Sindh.

Defending an insufficient total of 88, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa sent Sindh hurtling to 83 all out. Medium-pacer Saifullah picked up four wickers for 12 runs, while Fayyaz took 3-14.
