LAHORE: A man allegedly killed his estranged wife in Cantonment on Monday.

North Cantonment police said Capt Shazia, 37, was living with her three children and working in Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

They said the victim and her husband, Abdul Rehman, a landlord from Jhang, had separated after he contracted a second marriage.

Police said the incident took place in CMH Colony when the suspect hit his wife in the head with a blunt weapon and critically injured her. He later fled from the scene.

The injured was shifted to CMH where she could not survive.

Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of the victim's brother.

Station House Officer Shabbir Husain told Dawn that police were conducting raids to arrest the suspect.

ROBBERIES: Robbers struck seven times in the city on Monday and took away cash and valuables worth Rs3.3million.

Robbers broke into the house of Abubaker in the Township police area, held the family hostage at gunpoint and looted cash of Rs495,000.

Two robbers entered the house of Yasin in Raiwind city area and took away cash, ornaments and valuables worth Rs295,000 while as many robbers robbed a mobile phone shop of cash and mobile phones worth Rs300,000 at Makkah Chowk, Sabzazar.

One Shafqat in Green Town was deprived of cash and jewellery worth Rs900,000 by armed robbers.

A man, identified as Aftab, was chased and intercepted by robbers on GT Road, Baghbanpura. He was deprived of Rs700,000.

Robbers stopped a family near Thokar bypass and looted cash and jewellery worth Rs600,000 in Chung police area.

Noshad of Iqbal Town and his family were waylaid and deprived of cash and jewellery worth Rs200,000 by three robbers.

ACCIDENT: A 50-year-old man was killed in an accident on Multan Road on Monday.

Police said Rehmat Ali was crossing the road when a car hit him and ran him over.

The man received critical injuries and died on the way to hospital.

Police arrested the driver, impounded the car and registered a case.
