350 kite flyers, sellers arrested

SIALKOT: Police during a crackdown on Monday arrested more than 350 kite flyers, sellers and buyers from Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils.

Police also recovered more than 3,000 kites and string. District’s 28 police stations have registered cases. The suspects have been sent behind the bars.

Police launched the crackdown on kite flyers in the wake of the death of 23-year-old youth Zubair who died after falling from the rooftop of his house while flying kites at Gojra on Saturday.

PERISH ON ROAD: Suraya Bibi, 48, and her son, Shahzaib, 16, were killed in a road accident here on Monday near Glotiyaan on Daska-Gujranwala Road.

Reports said the Bhaanokey-based woman along with her son was on her way to Gujranwala when a tractor-trolley hit the motorbike, killing both on the spot.

Daska Saddar police have registered a case against the driver who managed his escape.

Police have shifted the bodies to Daska Civil Hospital for autopsy.

Kite flying is the only fun poor people can afford to have and that have been taken away from them. People daily die in road accidents, air accident and by some other accident; now u are going to ban everything just stay home and do nothing.

I feel bad for the people who sell kites those poor people will become in employed , flying kite should not be a problem one have have to have great skills and be careful in flying it , our people are so careless this why many accidents and deaths have accured

Is kite flying "too Hindu" for Pakistan? I read a long time back that the opposition to kite flying was on religious grounds (connected to Makar Sakranti?). Claiming it is being done for safety is one of those dodges to keep the international politicians happy.

Kite flying as an activity isn't the issue. People have a right to do what they please as long as it doesn't harm another. The issue is related to private property. Flying of the kites cause damage to property, including persons. This is a violation, not the flying of kite itself but rather the damage caused by some kites. If those who are engaging in this activity cause damage they should be held responsible for that damage. If someone continues to still fly the kites and causes damage it is their free choice. If damage isn't caused then punishment isn't warranted. The seller of the kite isn't causing the damage. It's the user of it that is. Punishing the seller is placing the blame on the wrong party. There may be some who only wish to stock up on kites but never fly them. The seller doesn't know the intent of the user. The idea isn't a blanket ban but a determining of the party that is responsible for the damage.

@UnshacklePakistan What about.. riding a bike or a motor or any vehicle. They also cause accident and also terrorist using for target killing should be ban. Am I right ??? Than do it.
