MUZAFFARGARH: A farmer was killed and four others were injured in a ‘bomb’ blast in a field of Basti Khudai near Rangpur, about 35 kilometres away from the city, on Friday.

The police said a bomb exploded when Qasim, a farmer, stepped on it.

He died on the spot while four others were injured and shifted to Multan’s Nishtar Hospital.

District Police Officer Rai Zameerul Haq told Dawn that the bomb was under sand in the field and the farmers were working there.

Basti Khudai is a desert area where army holds exercises. The bomb is believed to be leftover of the exercises. Such booby traps have claimed several lives in Khairpur Tamewali and Basti Khudai.
