With the hard news cycle slowing down for Ramazan, this fortnight’s visual overview of Dawn.com trends saw life & style/entertainment stories form almost the entire 'most popular' stories list. This despite the fact that Dawn (the print edition and website) on average generate over 150 news stories and analyses per day, and only a handful of entertainment stories.

Like our last report, it was wires based content that made it to number one.

Unlike the last report, the Reuters photo feature, 'The Other Pakistan' which depicted "some of the country's more affluent residents" was greeted with online outrage, sparking off a flurry of blogs condemning or mocking the subjects of the photographs, the photographer, Reuters, and Dawn.com for publishing the feature.

The scale of the 'event' led to a hashtag that trended Pakistan-wide, and included coverage of the reaction itself on global media including al Jazeera.

Other stories in the top 10 included entertainment features and short stories ranging from Mehwish Hayat discussing her new item number to Humaima Malik's comments on Emraan Hashmi.

Out of the top 1,000 stories in the time period July 8-July 21, 2014, we selected the entertainment articles below based on their page views pushing them into the top 10 stories on the site.

Stories that have been juxtaposed against them were chosen based on their importance editorially, their placement on the homepage, and the fact that they were shared through our social media accounts.

All data was gathered from Google Analytics or the Dawn website.

While a number of factors must be taken into consideration such as layout, publishing time and social media, the exercise provides a general snapshot that highlights what stories gained top of mind, compared to those that did not. This is part of a monthly exercise to show page view trends.

Note: The life cycle of a story ranges from 24-48 hours on average, which means that this is the period during which it gets the most traffic/visitors.
