PESHAWAR: A ten-day exhibition on ‘Islamic calligraphy and manuscripts’ organised by the directorate of archaeology and museums, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, opened at the Peshawar Museum here on Saturday.

Amjad Afridi, advisor to chief minister on sports, tourism, archaeology, museums and youth affairs, opened the exhibition during a ceremony. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Mineral Development Ziaullah Afridi, officials of directorate of archaeology and museums and members of civil society were also in attendance.

Over 105 pieces of calligraphic artwork artistically inscribed with selected verses from the holy Quran have been showcased at the museum.

The event has been arranged in connection with the fasting month to create awareness among masses about the ancient Islamic calligraphy and manuscripts, said Dr Abdul Samad, director archaeology and museums.

He said a plan had been outlined to highlight the significance of archaeological sites, revive the glory of the ancient buildings and include them in the world heritage list.
