ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday gave full support to the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan and wished for its success during his visit to the Army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Army Chief General Raheel Sharif received the premier upon his arrival.

Military sources said that PM Sharif was accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Adviser to the PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.

"PM Nawaz visited Yadgare Shuda and also offered dua," a short statement from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

"A comprehensive briefing was given to the premier on the operation in North Waziristan by senior military commanders," the ISPR statement said.

The premier paid rich tributes to the armed forces for rendering sacrifices in the war against terrorism, particularly in the ongoing operation.

PM Sharif was informed that after clearing Miramshah, security forces were now concentrating on MirAli where they were faced with resistance.

The premier was told that two captains and 26 soldiers were martyred during the operation whereas approximately 450 militants were killed.

PM Sharif said that the government would provide all financial resources for the operation's success.

The visit is indicative of improved ties between the country’s political and military leadership after months of cold relations.
