MINGORA: A man and his wife were killed when a landslide buried them while working in a field in a remote hamlet here on Monday.

Police said that Mohammad Yousaf, 58, his wife Kashmala, 52, were working in their field in Mankyal area of Bahrian tehsil, when a huge mass of earth from the adjoining mountain fell on them. Local people recovered the bodies of the couple.

Meanwhile, a woman allegedly committed suicide at remote Shingrai area. Manglawar police identified the victim as Jahan Bibi, wife of Nisar Khan, whose body was recovered from a nearby stream. The police said that brother of the deceased claimed that his sister didn’t commit suicide, but she was killed by her husband and father-in-law. Police arrested both the suspects after registering case against them.

DENGUE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE: Swat district administration on Monday directed all the government, semi government and private institutions, owners of hotels and industries to submit dengue clearance certificates within three days.

The order was issued during a meeting held at the office of deputy commissioner, Mahmood Aslam Wazir, which was attended by officials of different line departments.

Mr Wazir told the participants that dengue virus could be prevented if each member of society played role, adding that district administration would not tolerate any negligence in that regard.

Mr Wazir directed owners of hotels, industries and government and private institutions to remove larva from their respective buildings, and present dengue clearance certificates before the administration within three days.

“If any government department failed to present the certificate the district administration would approach the concerned provincial secretary for stern action against the violators of the order,” he added.

Meanwhile, two more persons tested positive for dengue fever in Swat, bringing the number of dengue affected patients to six, this year.

According to hospital sources, two women affected by dengue virus were admitted to Saidu Sharif Hospital. They were identified as Bakht Raja, 46, and Zeba, 45, adding that both belonged to Amankot area of Mingora.

Sources said that four people had been discharged after their condition had improved.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION BODIES: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Malakand division, Abdullah Khan on Monday said that dispute resolution councils (DRCs) had been set up in all the 22 subdivisions to resolve minor disputes through negotiations.

Talking to reporters at Kabal police station, he said that the initiative was taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police to ensure provision of cheap and speedy justice to people. He hoped that with the DRCs becoming formally functional, 50 per cent of workload on courts would be released. He said that the DRCs would start functioning within next three to four weeks.
