So pathetic...pakistan will never grow up. The concept of mind your own business is alien. This is a country where courts let go known criminals and terrorists (and apparently that does not tarnish Pakistans image), where the worlds most wanted man was hiding in cahoots with local authorities (and apparently this also does not tarnish Pakistans image), and terrorists kill polio workers (and this amazingly also does not tarnish pakistans image) as we call the people who do this as angry and misguided brothers who we need to talk to gently. But if you do something which is considered personal freedom the world over, all hell will break loose from the moral brigade here. Pathetic country. It really needs to get a life or it will very soon disintegrate.

Our courts are not ready to arrest terrorists posing as politicians who celebrated their 'century' of murdered hazaras in Quetta but this Meera case (which i dont know why is it punishable in the first place but as Islamic banana republic of pakistan has its laws against it soo there i guess) and has become their no 1 problem. What a sham of a republic this country is>>

The courts are overloaded, with cases not decided for decades, why is court time being wasted on an absurd case like this? Will they be able to retried the video from the internet? The complainant has more money than sense.

well I was just wondering if video would be played in court room during proceedings ? I would like to attend. In fact if proceedings are made open for public I think it would be the historical crowd attending the court. Hypocrisy ends in the land of pure.

The same courts should also take notice of Police and law enforcment agencies killing innocent people in Karachi and abducting them without any charges. They should also take notice of TTP and order action against PTI and PMLN for their support.

I think people deserve to know what was on the video clip. It often happens in Dawn that the real news is missing only the following information is given.

I do admire your observation regarding the issues of: a. individual freedom of expression vs so called national image, b.rational act (polio vaccination/drop) vs terrorist interruption and the role of the state or the statutory court's stances. Being a nation state like Pakistan they should rather establish the rule of law, ensure peace, tranquility, freedom to movement and expression, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, provide social and economic opportunities and justice to all, impart basic universal education, and more importantly bring the growth rate of GDP with a pace of 7% plus. If they can do so then it may boast of their national image. If the innocent people are deliberately being killed inside the mosque or in a public place in open daylight, time and again, and if the nation state don't stop it and don't apprehend the criminals to the rule of laws that will obviously damage the country image to the civilized society.. One Meera's individual video clip doesn't carry so weight-age at comparing with the other things as pointed out earlier.

Why can't the courts resist themselves from entering into frivolous cases. There are people awaiting justice for decades for their cases and courts get into these personal cases for no reason.

What business is it of ours, what people do with their own bodies and with their lives? If we are so against nudity and anything else - we can do two things 1) Don't look at her or the video clip (nothing will offend us then) and 2) ban her from representing Pakistan, be it through acting career or whichever other way, she could end up spoiling the name of our country! But to lay charges against her? We are almost as bad as the Talibans - and they have not taken over our country yet!

@ahmer: In certain cultures, and amomg mostly rural young men, minding others' business is entertainment and manly. Women's gossip is much less harmful really. But men tend to follow up with "control measures", which means using violence to conrrol those who do not confor to their own particular norms. Pakistan: Set your people free and trust them. I guess for the Pakistan judiciary -- the video of this very pretty beautiful Pakistani woman who dared -- is more gruesome -- than the videos of 23 'not so pretty' beheadings by the ugly Taliban. Priority, priority, priority -- my dear gentlemen of the judiciary.

Meera is an adult and the Captain is also an adult. They have the right to do whatever they see fit and post it on Youtube. If Youtube has no issue with posting it, then it is neither the judge's not anyone else's business to criticize it. Pakistanis shall get real and accept that the advent to technology has broken all the previous walls. Let it go and relax. Get ready. Much more is coming in the future.
