ISLAMABAD: The PML-N government has outshone the previous government of PPP with majority of people expressing satisfaction with its performance and policies, says the Gallup Annual Pulse Report 2014.

Despite inheriting a fragile economy, law and order problem and inflation, the PML-N government managed to put things in order, the report said, adding its overall performance was 59 per cent more than the PPP’s.

It received `green card’, meaning 55pc gave it a favourable rating, based on findings from representative polls in urban and rural areas of the four provinces.

A total of 2,596 men and women were interviewed after being selected through probability method with an error margin at 3-5pc and confidence level at 95pc. The field work was carried out from Jan 6 to 13.

Economy, among the first six key indicators, recorded 48pc net performance, Pakistan-India relations 22pc, foreign policy 33pc, control over terrorism 31pc, in inflation 20pc and control over corruption 36pc.

Among net performance rating for political leaders, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif was on top with 18pc favourable, Imran Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf at -5pc unfavourable, Asif Ali Zardari of PPP at -28pc, Altaf Hussain of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement at -39pc, Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl at -21pc and Asfandyar Wali Khan of the Awami National Party at -34pc.

The government controlled inflation by 20pc, terrorism by 31pc and corruption by 36pc.

Last year, only 27pc gave the PPP a favourable view with 71 negative rating, the report said.

Net rating of armed forces improved up to 49pc, of the Supreme Court 27pc and parliament 8pc while police, lower courts and political parties received negative ratings.—APP
