ISLAMABAD: The members of civil society on Monday held a protest against the recent decision of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) regarding the minimum age for marriage and second marriage.
The CII recently recommended that the children of any age should be allowed to get married, if they have attained puberty.
Moreover, the CII also recommended that if a man wants second marriage there should be no condition to get permission from first wife.
Protesters were holding placards and banners and chanted slogans against the members of CII.
Protesters said that CII should not interfere in already settled issues and it should give attention to issues like terrorism and extremism.
They said that it is unfortunate that religious leaders had been creating controversies rather than resolving the issues and bringing the people close to each other.
Later on, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
