PESHAWAR: Unknown robbers on Tuesday killed a trader after he resisted their attempt to rob him on the busy Ashraf Road here.

The killing angered the traders of the Ashraf Road and other markets of the city, who blocked the GT Road for over an hour by placing the victim’s body on it.

An official at Hashtnagri police station told Dawn that robbers shot dead Shah Wali of Chowa Gujar when he resisted their attempt to rob him of Rs1million he was taking to deposit in a bank. The trader was taken to Lady Reading Hospital, but he couldn’t survive, said the official, adding the robbers riding a bike escaped the area.

He said the police registered FIR against unknown people and began investigation.

The traders demanded immediate arrest of the robbers. They also called for protection to the business community who were facing threats from militants, robbers and other criminals. They ended the protest after police assured them of arresting the killers soon.
