SWABI: The workers of National Youth Organisation (NYO), a youth wing of Awami National Party, staged a protest demonstration here on Monday against the provincial assembly’s resolution for creation of Hazara province.
The NYO workers gathered at ANP district office and marched from there to Karnal Sher Khan Chowk. They were holding placards and chanting slogans against the resolution.
The protesters were led by NYO district president Azeem Khan Yousafzai.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Yousafzai said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf violated its election manifesto by dividing people of province for its political interest.
He alleged that PTI leaders wanted to increase their influence at the cost of the unity of people.
“Our leadership has opposed the tactics of the ruling party. The PTI leadership should implement its manifesto instead of creating an environment of hatred and disunity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” the NYO leader said.
Later, the protesters dispersed peacefully but vowed to continue their struggle against the resolution of the provincial assembly.
MEASLES: The health department has set up two camps one each at Sokeelye and Sandwa areas of Gadoon Amazai for vaccination and treatment of children suffering from measles.
Dr Liaquat, the district support manager of People's Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI), and Dr Yaqub, the district in-charge of Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), said that their teams were working round the clock in the area.
They said that they along with deputy commissioner were monitoring the situation.
Dr Liaquat told this scribe that 62 families in the area refused to vaccinate their children against measles. “It is a strange situation because we can’t force them,” he added.
He said that they recorded six cases of measles in the area besides 25 suspected cases. However, the EPI officials said that had already recorded 23 cases.
The officials admitted that Maria Begum of Sandwa village had died of measles.
Dr Yaqub, when contacted, said that situation in the measles-hit villages was under control.
On the other hand, residents of the area said that they were confused about treatment of the children suffering from measles as they didn’t see such a situation in the past.
Zahir Shah, a resident of Sandwa village, said that elders had advised them to cooperate with the health workers because without the help of local people it might be difficult for officials to reach every family in the area.
The villagers criticised the elected representative for their failure to visit the area.
