BAHAWALPUR: A staff nurse of Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) was allegedly found dead in the nurses' duty room late on Sunday.

According to hospital and police sources, Ms Abida, after performing her duty in the hospital’s emergency operation theatre (EOT), Ms Abida went to the duty room for taking rest.

After sometime, when one of her colleagues went to call her she was found lying dead in her bed.

BVH Medical Superintendent Dr Irshad Qureshi said the cause of her death could be ascertained after autopsy.

He said the officials of the emergency ward had handed over the body to police for getting the postmortem examination conducted and completion of other legal formalities.

He said so far the family of the deceased was not allowing postmortem examination of the body, adding that the procedure could not be carried out without their permission.

The concerned police officials told Dawn the bereaved family had so far filed no complaint to them.

SPS FOUNDER’S DAY: State minister for education Baleeghur Rehman has said the government will double the education sector’s allocation, taking it to four per cent of the federal budget.

In his presidential address at the 61st Founder’s Day of Sadiq Public School (SPS), here on Saturday, the minister reiterated his government’s resolve to give top priority to the education sector.

He said his ministry was busy formulating a uniform curriculum for the country in accordance with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

This, he said, would help promote national integration and cohesion, besides bringing marginalised segments of society in the national mainstream.

Lauding the services of late Nawab of Bahawalpur for establishment of SPS he said his endeavours for promotion of education in that backward area would be remembered for a long time.

Advising students to devote their lives for education, the minister said he was proud to be a former student of this prestigious institution (SPS).

Earlier, school principal Syed Abdullah Shah in his welcome address apprised the minister of academic and co-curricular activities at the institution.

He said four of the SPS students had attained distinction out of total 25,000 candidates who appeared recently in Physics examination held by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).
