ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) could not complete Margalla Avenue, one of the mega projects of the federal capital.

Supposed to be completed by June 2013, the project is still far from over as so far it could see only 40 per cent work.

In August 2012, in a bid to speed up work on the project the CDA decided to simultaneously construct the avenue from both ends.

An officer of CDA said construction work on nine-km-long Margalla Avenue, which will connect sector D-12 with Grand Trunk (GT) Road, began in June 2012, has been moving at snail’s pace.

Besides, the project, which would cost Rs1 billion, has been hit by financial crunch,” he said.

“Project had to be completed by June 2013 but because of the issue of land acquisition, funds and slow pace it missed the deadline,” he said.

“Due to delay the estimated cost of the project has increased by 40 per cent,” he said.

The spokesman for the CDA said the project has been included in the priority list of CDA. — A Reporter
