RAWALPINDI: In a strong statement, Pakistan Army’s Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) condemned Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hassan’s statement in which he called former Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Chief Hakimullah Mehsud a martyr.
The statement said that the JI chief's remarks were irresponsible and that it was only made for political point scoring.
"Munawar Hassan's statement is an insult to the thousands of Pakistani civilians and soldiers killed," the ISPR statement said.
"To declare dead terrorists as martyrs makes Munawar Hassan's remarks highly condemnable.
"Strong condemnation of his views from an overwhelming majority leaves no doubt in any one's mind that all of us are very clear on what the state of Pakistan is and who are its enemies," the statement said.
"The people of Pakistan, whose loved ones laid down their life while fighting terrorists, and families of martyrs of armed forces demand an unconditional apology from Syed Munawar Hassan for hurting their feelings. It is also expected that Jamaat-i-Islami should clearly state its party position on the subject," said the ISPR statement.

Totally agree with the ISPR's condemnation. It gives words to the feelings of the masses. Munawar's statement has not only hurt the feelings of millions of pakistanis and the families of those slained by the TTP but also it shows how he looks at the terrorists. Armed Forces many salutes to you for calling a spade a spade. GREAT JOB. I strongly protest against Munawar's satatement and request that he should be tried for high treason. Apology is not enough.

I do not understand why JI is allowed to operate in Pakistan. JI was opposed to the creation of Pakistan. Its terrorist branch, Al Badr and Al Shams, killed scores of people in Bangladesh (East Pakistan then). Its students wing, IJT, never hesitated using force against liberal and secular students, even killed many. Here JI is now calling a mass murderer a shaheed? Its a shame and insult not only to Pakistanis but all the victims of terrorism.

While completely agreeing with the Pakistan Army stance on deploring calling of Hakeemullah Mehsud as a Shaheed by the JI Chief, I have two questions to ask our proud Army:
1) What is stopping you from lunching a full fledge operation in North Waziristan?
2) Are the lives of a few Pro-Pakistan and Anti-American Haqqani Militants residing in N.Waziristan so important that Army is letting thousands of Pakistanis getting killed by the TTP, while the latter openly plan these attacks and Army is a mere silent spectator?

Shame on these elements who support terrorists. Time has come that Pakistanis ask these "so-called' religious parties to declare whether they we Pakistanis or the terrorist enemies of the countries. People should stand up and demand a clear answer, if the are with us or them. If Jamaat-e-Islami and JUI support Pakistani constitution or the convoluted thinking of TTP? If they are honest they must come out and take the one or the other side and don't be wishy washy. Ifthey are with TTP then law must take its course and these parties should be declared illegal and their operations stopped. One cannot deny the sacrifices made by the army fighting TTP terrorists.

I do agree with ISPR's condemnation of JI Chief regarding his views about TTP Chief Hakimullah Mehsud. With his narrow perception, it won't be appropriate to deal with existing religious political parties in order to seek resolution for peace. They see things from their conservative version of the faith and if gain power, will turn Pakistan into a theological state, not favourable for its minorities as well as not compatible with secular word.
JI chief should revisit the issue and evaluate what damage Hakimullah Mesued had caused to innocent people and then declare he should be regarded as martyr or not .

I am glad the military finally spoke up. It would have been far, far better for democracy in Pakistan however if the civilian government had issued this statement. I would also suggest reviewing existing laws and changing them (if needed) to make such statements geared to confuse the nation on serious matters of life and death subject to severe punishment. Only then will Pakistan be able to finally put an end to the deadly mischief being carried out by these gangs.

MMA had facilitated the intrusion of these terrorist into Sawat, Malakand Areas, but were beaten back by Army. Imran Khan is a replacement of JI, paid agent of Al Zawahri Group. He is attempting his best to accomodate rest of these terrorist in deeper parts of Pakistan, by asking for establishing offices for these terrorists in Pakistan. Instead of wasting time around these paid terrorists and their advocating agents,it would be better to advisable to start strong Army clean upoperations against these terrorists. Government run on religious affiliations have hardly been successful in purporting equality. These mullahs would end up creating layers of discriminatory citizens in Pakistan. The Big Lie from day one was started by none other than Gen. Musharraf himself when he declared this to be "America's War" which he was forced to fight. If there had been a man of some integrity and substance in Musharraf's place (or in place of Zardari after him), he would never have allowed these gangs of arab and central asian thugs to set foot on the sacred soil of Pakistan. Let us be clear. Taliban kill innocent Pakistanis. They fight the state of Pakistan. They take funds from foreign countries and are involved in criminal activities.

He has no idea what he is saying and how it is hurting sentiments of millions of people of this country. JI in their offical statement reminded army not to interfare in the politics which makes Hassan statement political, further Fazal ul Rehman made the same comment but is not condemed by anyone which includes ISPR, which is surprizing, however we humans cannot catagorize any person as matyr or dead and all such catagorization would be considered as his / her own..

I fully agree with the sentiments and timely reaction of ISPR.Hassan's remarks are an insult to not only the 'real' martyrs but he has also injured the feelings of the living

The ISPR quickly came out against JI Chief, However they never said a word when Lt. General Shahid Aziz (Former Chief of Joint Staff Committee) wrote, published and circulated the book, "Ye Khamoshi Kub Tak" and elaborately explained therein that War against Terrorism is actually and really a war against Islam. Being an active participant in Musharaf's policy making team he must be an authority on the the so called war against terrorism.
The only comprehensible reason behind the present uproar against JI Chief's statement is that it may effect the low category sepoys and junior officers' (real fighter's) moral and commitment. The book by Lt. General Shahid Aziz will however never reach that audience as they never read one in their life.

Munawar Hassan is not an 'any person" he is head of an extremist outfit JI and JI also owned his statement and few thousand strayed Pakistanis follow the JI head as their leader and further he uses word Mulana before his name which also a cause to deceive a lot of innocent people therefore a serious note should be taken of his statement and he along with his party should be tried in the court of law under high treason i.e. article 6 of constitution and must be hanged in public

Specially those who are shopping in market, going to work or school or ever going to masjid for namaz and a terrorist kill those innocent people for no reason and JI chief calling head of that terririst gruop a Shaheed?If JI cheif think he is right than go in front of the families of those who died in terrorist attack and called Hakimullah shaheed.

I also believe that the war is not against the terrorism but it is against the ideology,the ideology behind Afghan Taliban the real mujahids is believed to overcome all technology lackness and will win on ground merit, the uncertainity factor is the key as no one can actually predic how much capable talibans are in their gorrilla attacks, this element of surprise is not acceptable to the super powers.
Therefore this war on ideology will not end untill we decide "sab say pehlay Pakistan Ya Sab sy pehlay Islam".

Munawwar Hassan has not issued any Fatwa.
He has said that if a US soldier --- who fights against Afghan Taliban --- is not a Shaheed then what do you call those who die while supporting US against Afghan Taliban?
Before you answer this question, keep in mind that suicide attacks and bomb blasts started after Pak army's operation in 2004. OR In other words, TTP has started attacking military installments after the operation.

If you have been making all kinds of killers and marauders your heroes, e.g., Ghori, Abdali, Nadir Shah, Babar etc, then what is wrong in calling HakimUllah a shahid and hero? The natives who fought against those brutes you do not call as your heroes or call their deaths as shahadat, the naturally today your soldiers cannot be called shahid.
