LARKANA, Sept 6: A father killed his daughter in Juriya Chandio village within the jurisdiction of the Rehmatpur police station on Friday, police said.

The victim, 27-year-old Husna, mother of six children, had been advising her father, 50-year-old Koral Chandio, not to marry for the second time when he got angry and shot her at point-blank range.

The body, after medico-legal formalities, was handed over to the victim’s husband, Nizamuddin Chandio, who lodged a case at the Rehmatpur police station against his father-in-law under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The police arrested the suspect and also seized from him the murder weapon.

SMBBMU paramedics

The paramedical staff association of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) refused to call off their token strike on the 52nd consecutive day on Friday.

The association has been observing a pen-down strike from 9am to 11am and has now decided to hold office lock-outs from September 9 in the SMBBMU and the Chandka Medical College (CMC).

Director academics Prof Dr Khursheed Abbasi, who heads the negotiations committee, tried talking to the protesters on Friday at the camp set up at the CMC’s main entrance but the consultation remained inconclusive.

Meanwhile, while talking to Dawn, paramedical association’s general secretary Ali Hassan Mirani said that the paramedics were ready for negotiations but they should be in line with the charter of demands already submitted to the SMBBMU administration.

Their demands include removal of SMBBMU vice chancellor Prof Dr Akbar Haidar Soomro.

He said that the vice chancellor had been refusing to meet the association but now he had agreed to hear them out and try resolving their problems. He said that the strike would be called off immediately once their demands were accepted.
