Kei Taniguchi and her teammate Kazuya Hiraide, both from Japan, were the only mountaineers this year who reached the summit of the 7,266-metre-high Diran Peak in the Karakoram Range.

The duo reached the pyramid shaped mountains peak on August 5, 2013. On the other hand, the Slovak and Czech expeditions were forced to abandon their attempts.

The Slovaks were attempting a new rocky route on the Diran Peak, but had to abandon their ascent after rocks fell on them. The Czechs were not lucky as one of their team members fell ill and they were unable to attempt the peak.
