KARACHI, Aug 30: Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani rejected on Friday the opposition Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s requisition to call the Sindh Assembly’s session on the ground that it did not meet set rules.

A day after demanding deployment of the army in Karachi, the MQM had on Aug 28 filed requisition to the Sindh Assembly secretary with signatures of 43 lawmakers for summoning the provincial assembly session.

“Actually the requisition filed by the MQM carried signatures of their 43 MPAs,” Speaker Durrani told reporters. “A few of the signatures of there members did not match with the record of the Sindh Assembly so it (request) can’t be entertained. They (MQM) need to file fresh requisition. The MQM has formally been informed about the status of their requisition.”

After knowing the status of the requisition, the MQM did not come up with any immediate decision and said that it would discuss the matter in their upcoming meeting before moving forward.

MQM’s deputy parliamentary party leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hasan regretted the speaker’s decision and observed that the party should have been informed prior to the rejection decision if signatures of some MPAs did not match the assembly’s record. “Anyhow, a meeting of our parliamentary party is due in September in which we will decide a future course of action.”
