PESHAWAR, Aug 26: The inhabitants of Regi Lalma area here have demanded of the provincial government to form a reconciliation committee headed by local MPA to resolve the dispute over the construction of the Regi township.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the Regi Ittehad Tanzeem president Shah Jehan said some influential people were busy in sale and purchase of plots at Regi Lalma land despite it being disputed.

He was flanked by the organisation’s vice president Malik Arsala Khan, general secretary Shahid Mehmood Afridi, deputy general secretary Mohammad Ayaz Khan and dozens of villagers.

“We are the real owners of the land and it is government duty to stop sale and purchase of plots on the disputed land,” said Mr Jehan.

He alleged that provincial minister for housing Amjad Khan Afridi was supporting the land mafia.

“We (the villagers) will not allow the sale of land without consultation with the Regi Ittehad Tanzeem leaders,” he said.

He said the government should form reconciliatory committee headed by local MPA Mehmood Khan to resolve the matter.

Mr Jehan said that any unilateral decision would create law and order situation in the area.

He said the issue was also discussed at the floor of the provincial assembly but the influential people were violating the government decision.
