MIRPURKHAS, July 14: The president of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture’s (SAB) Mirpurkhas chapter, Mir Haji Zafarullah Talpur, said that more than a 100 shops and two petrol stations had been illegally built in the natural storm water drain in Bhansinghabad area of Mirpurkhas city, in collusion with revenue officials, blocking the natural course of water.

Talking at a chamber meeting on Sunday, Mr Talpur said that the drain near the Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary School had also been encroached upon.

Moreover, he alleged that irrigation officials embezzled funds while de-silting the Left Bank Outfall Drain last year.

Mr Talpur alleged that proper cleaning work did not take place on the LBOD and lamented that large amounts of funds allocated for de-silting the water channel had been wasted.—BoC
