LAHORE, May 15: A fierce dust storm lashed the city on Wednesday evening, uprooting trees and billboards.

Rescue 1122 authorities also reported fierce dust storm in Mian Channu, Pir Mahal near Okara, Faisalabad and Gojra, uprooting trees and even electricity poles. They said details were being gathered about any loss to human life and property.

A passerby was reportedly injured as an uprooted tree fell on him at Jail Road, Lahore.

The dust storm lashed at around 7.45pm after the city experienced a dry and hot day with a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius.

The velocity of the storm was 90.7km per hour at the airport and 55.6km per hour in the main city.

The Met office said it would remain partly cloudy in the city with chances of some rain during the night.

Meanwhile, temperature shot up to over 45 degrees Celsius in some Sindh towns due to clear weather. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Dadu which was 46.7 degrees Celsius.

It was 45 degrees Celsius in Sukkur, Larkana and Moenjodaro. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab, that was 44.1 degrees Celsius.

The Met office expected hot and dry weather in most parts of the country in the next 24 hours. However, there were chances of dust, thunderstorm and rain at some places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and central and north Punjab in the next 24 hours.
