LAHORE, May 2: The PML-Q has highlighted 11 major flaws in the education policy of former chief minister Shahbaz Sharif.

“During the five-year tenure of Shahbaz-led government some nine million children remained out of school. Under the 18th amendment free education should have been provided to the children between five and 16 years but it did not bother to follow the constitution,” PML-Q Senator Kamil Ali Agha said.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, he claimed that at present some 700 schools in Punjab were without shelter and the buildings of 1,500 institutions had been declared dangerous. Why Shahbaz Sharif did not pay attention during his tenure, he asked.

He said 2,000 schools were badly damaged in south Punjab during flood in 2010 but none of them had yet to be restored as the previous government did not release funds for the purpose.

Mr Agha further said instead of improving the condition of 59,000 public schools in the province, Shahbaz Sharif preferred to spend Rs800 million on each Daanish school. Despite allocation in the budget for setting up computer laboratories in schools every year, it remained a distant dream and at least there had been 1,500 high schools which were without this facility.

The PML-Q leader further said no audit by a firm of international repute was carried out in the purchase of laptops and solar lamps. He also asked the former chief minister to stop doing ‘rickshaw stunt’ as he used to travel by bulletproof vehicles.
