Govt to confront violent groups, says Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday expressed the government’s resolve to confront all groups indulging in violence in Balochistan to restore peace.

He was talking to a delegation of the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), led by its chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal, here on Tuesday. They discussed overall situation of the country, particularly Balochistan.

Chaudhry Nisar said that the difficult conditions prevailing in Balochistan called for joint efforts by all political forces in the province to extricate it out of the crisis.

He said that the government would support all political forces in their efforts to resolve different issues through consensus and dialogue.

He said that the PML-N was committed to empowering the people of Balochistan and that was the reason that despite being in majority in the provincial assembly, it had allowed the National Party to head the provincial coalition.

Sardar Mengal informed the minister about undemocratic and unlawful steps taken against the BNP-M over the last 10 years. He highlighted acts of violence against leaders of his party in the elections and said that despite that the BNP-M had had opted for political and democratic path and preferred to play its parliamentary role.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Richard Hoagland also called on the minister to discuss issues of mutual interest.
