THIS is apropos the article ‘Earning a livelihood’ (June 28) by Amin Valliani. It is true that Islam discourages the state of being a beggar or mendicant.
However, it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the mechanism in which at least nobody should strive for the basic necessities. Public institutions should create policies which should tackle this issue.
In countries where the government is not strong enough to care for this issue alone, the partnership between public institutions and civil society institutions can work together.
We should create a safe environment. Social welfare institutions like Saylani, Edhi and others can together create projects for human welfare. These NGOs should be encouraged so that more people come and join the group and work to get rid of this social disorder.
