ISLAMABAD: Two high-speed Indian aircraft violated Pakistani airspace by three nautical miles on Tuesday, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) said.

A PAF spokesman said the violation occurred around 10:40 am in Attari, Fazilka sector.

The aircraft stayed inside Pakistani airspace for about two minutes, he said.

“Pakistan Air Force initiated prompt tactical actions and scrambled the two fighter aircraft to challenge the intruders. Upon PAF actions, Indian aircraft exited the Pakistani airspace,” said the PAF spokesman.

The Foreign Ministry has conveyed serious concern to the Indian High Commission over the air space violation.

Pakistan considers today's air space violation as a contravention of the "1991 Agreement between Pakistan and India on Prevention of Air Space Violations and for Permitting over Flights and Landings by Military Aircraft".

While voicing its concerns with the Government of India, the Government of Pakistan has called for all existing agreements and CBMs that have been reached between the two countries to be respected.

IAF wanted to see if PAF was alert. It was a friendly gesture. PAF was highly alert as usual and IAF left after kissing Pakistani skies. Love and Peace from Punjab to our brothers.

It's difficult to imagine that in just two minutes PAF pilots boarded their respective aircraft and started flying towards Indian planes, causing Indian planes to return back. It is more likely that Indian planes violated the airspace by mistake and then after immediately realizing it, they returned back. Or were they just having fun? :)

very dumb statement by PAF i.e we showed them eyes and they back up.Very funny PAF seems forgetting that any attack on IAF fighters will invite massive IAF wrath.IAF is no joke and pakistan knew it.Other news media of pakistan like express tribune says PAF jets were not even in air let alone scrambling Indian Fighter jets. This is completely false statement that PAF is issuing as face saving.

its a typical "probing" mission by the hostile airforces who check out the operational preparedness of the air defences of the target country just like the "bumping" action done by the sharks before they actually attack

in most cases such intruders escape before encountering the defenders or are force landed or "escorted" out of the airspace

IAF has done it many times before and will continue to do so and it has more freedom to easily execute such missions because TTP has destroyed Pakistani AWACs planes which could deter such intrusions more effectively

Can this act of "scrambling of PAF fighter planes" to counter the deadly threat to Pakistan's existence by brave watchful warriors ( PAF , and the rest) be just another careful ploy to sabotage the peace offerings of the new Pakistan Prime Minister?

LOL! how come inside two min. a couple of jets was scrambled and the Indian Jets exited upon challenging from PAF??? This statement doesn't add up.

The IAF jet would have intruded and the PAF would have scrambled. if the Indian Jets where there inside Pakistan airspace then its highly impossible its because of the challenge posed by PAF.

Pls do not provide incomplete news. It was violation due to technological reason; not intentional. IAF has already inform this to its pakistani counterpart. Matter should end here..!!! Let's enjoy champion trophy now...!! :)

Oh please, PAF continued to sleep ! 2 miniutes inside our airspace and they exited, no PAF aircraft got airborne before.......shame on you ! PAF radars should have picked them up after takeoff, their bearing and intention before they cross the border should have propmted our reactions.....where are the AD weapons ? Can we demand some action against the people responsible in our own country of this failure. If it was Indian Airspace, they would have shot our aircraft down ( remember Atlantic).. WHAT A SHAME

Let this be a lesson to those in the PML-N, PPP, MQM and even PTI who are bending over backwards to reach an accomodation with India, India wants Pakistan to be another Bangladesh, Nepal or Bhutan, we need to do the following in this order: 1.) Establish Law and Order and eliminate corruption 2.) Fix our educational system with a focus on science, math and technology 3.) Establish DOMESTIC Industry - our own Pakistani companies making everything from radios to satelities 4.) Fix our infrastructure (electricity production and distribution, roads, bridges, rail telecommunications) 5.) ................. When all this is done we can upgrade our military with the latest high tech equipment from 5th gen fighters to nuclear submarines and a million plus well trained army

Jun 11, 2013 08:41pm

Last time they did this we locked on missles on to their aircraft....this time, we were late, speaks volumes about the relative preparedness of our air force and how it has deteriorated in the last 4 years, as predicted much with everything else now lack of funds is starting to effect even our armed forces, another 10 odd years of this economic chaos and we will not be in any position to challenge India even when she violates our borders, Good luck Pakistan!

so the enemy fighter planes remained in Pak airspace for 2 minutes before PAF could get its rear up in the air? thats 2 minutes too late for any airforce in the world worth its salt that has been assigned the crucial job of protecting country's vital assets. PAF really needs to wake up from its deep slumber and pay more attention to its core business of defending Pak's airspace rather than busying itself with gobbling up premium agricultural land to build the next golf course or wasting human resources and nation's precious money on manicuring gardens for its top brass's lavish villas.

Two minutes of alleged air space violation by India and Pakistan is crying foul. The american drones are violating pakistani airspace everyday and butchering scores of people, who are allegedly militants. We have never seen such alacrity in raising protest for the same. Why such double standards? Is it so because "might is right"?

Jun 12, 2013 03:52am

Let's not exaggerate the situation. It is common for high speed jets of a neighbouring country intruding unintentionally due to technical or navigational error into another's air space. It certainly does not appear to be an intentional act. Protest by all means but lay it to rest.

True Pakistani
Jun 12, 2013 04:21am

@Truth: Two minutes is a pretty long time actually. PAF must have pilots trigger ready (and standing next to aircraft) at Sargodha, Karachi and Peshawar 24x7. Operational readiness is, and should not, be public information,

Pakistan could also have mobile batteries along the border. These aircraft could also have been shot down by SAM (Surface to Air Missiles) depending upon proximity of a battery and authorization.

It seems to me Bhartis are testing Pakistan's (not just PAF's) operational readiness as part of their Cold Doctrine. They have repeated these incidents. We should shoot them down. No exceptions.

As soon as new PM announced he wanted better relations with india, bashing of our diplomats and violation of our airspace has happened unprovoked. Who are the jokers in Pakistan who think that india wants peace. Just like the west they need an enemy to keep their population united and sharp. Without an enemy india will find it diffuicult to stay together.

Shahnawaz
Jun 12, 2013 05:52am

@raja hindustani: Raja, I agree with you. I think both our governments should just stop giving long statements on these issues. This is an easy way to let relations keep improving. If an intrusion occurs from either side without clearance to enter, the standard procedure is to scramble jets, intercept, and make radio contact. End of story. No need for conspiracy theories or mud slinging at each other from across borders. Governments and militaries from sides do keep poking each other from time to time. Let's just stop giving it space in the news. About time. Let the people from both countries take our relations forward.

Jun 12, 2013 07:30am

Two minutes are very long, please remember these are two high speed aircraft and they can cause huge amount damage in these 2 minutes if they want to. Indian Air Force is testing PAF response time. In 2 minutes these high speed air crafts can go further deep in Pakistan if they travel on full speed. This is alarming.... PAF should be ready to respond the moment they see any plane aiming towards its territory....

Hassan
Jun 12, 2013 07:32am

@raja hindustani: and Mr. Raja, you were also informed by the IAF that they had technical problem and probably the IAF Chief ask your permission if he can inform the PAF about the technical problem... come on Raja grow up.... we are not talking about those fishermen who cross territories mistakenly, we are talking about men in uniform who are professionals, who knows where their boundaries are and how come these high speed jets can return after warning, why not IAF play with their high speed toys within India....

Hassan
Jun 12, 2013 07:42am

@siva: You know siva, its not a bollywood movie in which an Indian army officer is so Godly that he only act when his country is threatened..... these men in uniform on both sides of the boarder are pretty much same.... they don't have any love affair between them... if someone come and tell me that accidentally IAF enter in PAK airspace than, I will question their professionalism.... How many times you here PAF jets accidentally enter in Indian Airspace..... if you think that the Indian IAF was provoked by PAF than why Indian Media didn't report on this matter... sometimes it good to use little brain on top, its not for decoration....

Hassan
Jun 12, 2013 07:43am

@Sunder Singh: I love you brother... You hit the bulls eye...

Hassan
Jun 12, 2013 08:01am

@Truth: Mr. Truth, first of all I think you have no idea on the Air Defense Protocol ....be it India or Pakistan this is how it works... there are 4 pilots always ready in the waiting room at the Air Base for emergency response. The moment Indian planes take off from their air base, they are on Pakistan Radars, the pilots in the waiting room are alerted through announcement. If the plane heads towards Pakistan, these pilots are alerted again to get ready and the ground staff is alerted so that they are ready for plane take off, the moment Indian Air crafts comes within certain distance to the Pakistan territories, Pakistan pilots are alerted to go in their planes and start their engines and wait for further instructions. Once the Indian planes comes very close to the Pakistan territories, the PAF planes will take off and intercept these Indian planes... this whole process is very fast, because remember we are talking about high speed jets... it won't take them long before they enter each other territories.... now this is a common protocol practiced by majority of Air Forces including India... so I hope you are clear now as to how in 2 minutes PAF could scramble and reach the IAF planes....

Usman

@A Shah: Education in Science & Technology, Merit, elimination of corruption are necessary, it will take 20 years after this is done before we can once again stand up to India, but this will never happen if we keep voting in PML-N, or PPP.
