ISLAMABAD, June 9: The Punjab Teachers Association has demanded an increase in salaries and has announced to march from Aabpara to the Parliament House on Monday to register its protest.

While addressing participants of a protest camp at Aabpara Chowk on Sunday, the president of the association, Allah Bux Qaisar, said the teachers’ community had always been deprived of its due rights.

“We have no option but to protest and convey our message to the decision makers. The ad hoc relief allowances should be merged with the salary and the scales should be revised. This is the only way our salaries can be increased to benefit all teachers,” he said.

Another office bearer Chaudhry Taj Qaisar said it had become impossible for government servants to meet their expenditures because of the price hikes.

“There should be a uniform education system throughout the country and teachers of the same pay scale should get the same salary. Health insurance should be provided to government servants, especially for the ten most expensive diseases,” he said.

Abdul Manaf, a teacher, said the families of teachers who died during their services should receive 100 percent pension, and the daily wage teachers should be regularised.

He said teachers from all over Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had left for Islamabad and would protest in front of the Parliament House on Monday.—A Reporter
