Musharraf and Chitral

Published May 28, 2013 08:11am

AS ill-luck would have it, Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf himself could not contest election from Chitral. The selection of Chitralis amongst myriad ethnicities creates certain ideas in the mind of others.

The factor may be the culture, affection, passion or the most worthy thing which has not been witnessed for decades in Pakistan -- the peace in Chitral.

Despite the aforesaid attributes we have many issues which need to be solved. The major issue relates to the Lowari Pass, five months in a year the valley had been cut off from the outside world due to heavy snowfall in the Lowari mountains. The only alternative route was the Afghan route, with its accompanying fear of death, robbery, etc. Musharraf remembered us at the perilous time and we supported him on his call.

It was kind of him for remembering us at the time of election and the people of Chitral showed the whole nation by supporting their leader, showing him a sense of sincerity and affection.

It is so sad that in mainland Pakistan only the dishonest, corrupt, insincere etc. etc. are appreciated beside targeting anyone via conspiracies. Musharraf is one of the victim of these conspiracies for having different vision for the country.

Hats off to the people of Chitral, I am sure the time and history will always remember you. I wish the rest of pakistanis could also show this aptitude. Remember that last time ZAB was hanged, do not let another representative of yours get the same treatment.

This shows that had Musharraf been allowed to contest the election, he would have won from Chitral. Before the elections there was a discussion on a talk show on GEO TV and one of the participants who is a senior journalist/tv anchor was making a mockery of Musharraf saying he interviewed Musharraf in Dubai who indicated to him (the journalist) that he will contest from Chitral. Recollecting the interview with Musharraf, the Journalist was laughing with other participants on the tv show, saying how he could contest from Chitral and win. I think the journalist should be eating a humble pie now.

Being a Chitrali I am Happy that people of Chitral have voted for Pervez Musharraf. We can not trust the politicians of Pakistan as they have no interest in Chitral. At least Pakistan Army will consider Chitrali people as their supporter & will continue to build our roads so we could have safe journey to homes all over the year.

Musharraf is a great man. He is sincere, honest and patriotic. I am not from Chitral but I support all the actions and policies (with a couple of exceptions) of his government. Pakistan did become a better place and progressed during his tenure. It is sad to see that he was not allowed to contest election before even been proven guilty by the courts.

We salute Chitrali's. It appears only they are the honest people. They never gorgot their mohsin. Electronic media was given freedom by Pervaiz Musharraf and the same media turned against him. People blame army for not taking action against terrorists. They forget that supreme court blamed army for taking action against Lal Masjid brigade.
