RAWALPINDI, May 26: All illegal bus and van terminals in the city will be closed down by the end of this month, said secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Owais Manzoor Tarar.

He said all the documents, including permission letters, for setting up of bus terminals would be checked and action would be taken against illegal bus stands.

“The transport terminals being run illegally in different parts of the city would be closed down and shifted out of the city by May 30.”

The authority has launched a crackdown against such terminals following the directives of the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court (LHC), he added. “The operation has been launched and the city will be cleared of illegal transport terminals,” he added.

According to a report, 50 illegal bus, van and truck stands are operated in various localities, including Faizabad, Pirwadhai and Peshawar Mor, causing frequent traffic jams on the main roads of the city.—APP
