ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: Kohsar police have arrested a lawyer for using the name of a Supreme Court judge in order to represent the OGDC in a case in the Peshawar High Court.

He was arrested under PPC sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), and 420 (cheating and dishonesty). On Tuesday, the OGDC managing director, Masood Siddiqi, received a call from someone who identified himself as Supreme Court judge justice Nasirul Mulk and asked the MD if the company needed a lawyer for the case.

He then offered his brother, a senior lawyer, to represent the company in the Peshawar High Court.

In a suo motu petition, the court was looking into LPG contracts allegedly given “in violation of all rules, regulation and fair play” to OGDCL and Fon Gas Company and referred the case to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court on January 17 also ordered placing OGDC’s managing director and other officials on the exit control list. The bureau investigating officer on January 17 asked the OGDC to furnish the names and information of several senior OGDC officials working in the organisation since September 2004.

Then the OGDCL managing director called the petroleum secretary and related the whole story. The secretary recommended to the MD to confirm the identity of the caller with the Supreme Court.

At the court’s offices, Siddiqi learned that neither Justice Nasirul Mulk nor anyone from his staff had called him. When the barrister, Faiz Ali Sayed, arrived at OGDC’s offices to take the case and negotiate his fee, the staff detained him there until Kohsar police came to arrest him.
