RAWALPINDI, Oct 8: A convicted prisoner in a murder case, died under mysterious circumstances, on Monday, in Central jail Adiala, an official said.

The body of the deceased was taken to District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) for postmortem. And a medical board was formed to ascertain the facts.

According to the jail authorities, Lehrasib Hussain, a resident of Gujar Khan who had been convicted and awarded life imprisonment for his involvement in a robbery/murder case in the Mandra Police Station vicinity, died in the jail’s hospital on Monday.

When contacted, superintendent police (SP) Adiala jail, Malik Mushtaq Awan, revealed that Lehrasib Hussain — serving a 25 year sentence — was shifted to the jail hospital on Saturday. He had been complaining of a headache.

SP jail said: “The prisoner was under treatment in the jail hospital, since last Saturday and was recovering gradually, when all of a sudden he suffered cardiac arrest on Monday, and died; though he had no previous history of heart disease.”

Lehrasib Hussain, in his 40’s, was arrested when he was found guilty of being involved in a robbery/murder case in June 2000, registered with the Mandra police.

After the court trial, the murder suspect was convicted and awarded life imprisonment.
