KARACHI, July 3: Two persons were shot dead by unknown assailants in different parts of Lyari in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

A duty officer at the Napier police station said that the body of an unidentified man stuffed in a gunny bag was found in the Syed Mohammad Shah Road area. There were marks of torture on the body, he said, adding that the victim might have been kidnapped and killed somewhere else before his body was dumped at the place where it was found.

Police said that the victim appeared to be around 25 to 26 years old. He was subjected to torture and there were multiple bullet wounds on his body, they said.

The body was first shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities and later to the Edhi morgue for identification.

The police suspected that the victim was associated with one of the Lyari gangs.

An FIR (102/2011) was registered against unknown killers on behalf of the state at the Napier police station.

In a separate incident, a man was shot dead late on Saturday night in the Khadda Market area within the remit of the Baghdadi police station.

Police said that 47-year-old Abdul Aziz, son of Mohammad Yousuf, was standing outside a mosque when unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle shot him. The victim was rushed to the civil hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds, they added.

An FIR (176/2011) was registered against unknown killers at the Baghdadi police station on a complaint of the victim's family.

Two killed in Baldia Town

A man was killed by unknown armed men in Baldia Town late on Saturday night.

Police said Mohammad Rafique, 35, son of Mohammad, was riding by the stadium in Baldia Town No 8 on his motorcycle when armed men traveling in a car fired at him. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead.

Following the legal formalities, the body was handed over to his family.

Police have registered an FIR (389/2011) against unidentified armed men on the complaint of the victim's brother at the Saeedabad police station.

In Baldia Town No 5, a young man was killed by unknown persons on Sunday morning.

A duty officer at the Baldia police station said Waseem, 20, son of Gulab Khan, was returning from work when armed men riding a motorcycle intercepted him near a National Bank branch and shot him, apparently after he posed resistance to their bid to rob him.

The victim was rushed to the CHK but he died on the way, he said.

After legal formalities at the hospital, the body was handed over to his family.

Activist shot dead

A political activist was shot dead within the remit of the Sachal police station late on Saturday night, police said.

A duty officer at the police station said Khadim Husain, 35, a resident of Korangi stated to be a worker of the Sindh National Front, came to Bhitaiabad to visit his father's house. As he was heading towards a teashop in the neighborhood, unknown suspects riding a motorcycle shot him and fled.

Police said the victim suffered a gunshot wound in the chest and died on the spot.

Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

Six-year-old drowns

A six-year-old boy drowned near Hawkesbay beach on Sunday, Edhi sources said.

They said the victim, Khalid, along with his family was enjoying a picnic at the beach when he was swept away by a high tide.

The body was fished out and shifted to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.
