LAHORE, June 9: Robbers shot dead an O-Level student and took away gold ornaments worth over Rs550,000 during a house robbery in Wapda Town on Thursday.

The victim identified as 22-year-old Hassaan Latif succumbed to his wound at Jinnah Hospital.

Sattokatla SHO Javaid Siddique claimed that housemaid identified as Yasmeen alias Zamurd of Deepa village of Havaili Lakha and her accomplice Arshad alias Achhi had been arrested for planning and committing robbery.

He said four robbers stormed into the house of Saudia-returned Abdul Latif in the afternoon, held family members at gunpoint and looted 12-tola gold ornaments.

Latif's son Ahsaan, who also studied in Saudia Arabia, put up resistance. Ahsaan was shot in the head and severely injured by one of the robbers who fled the scene.

Police shifted the body from Jinnah Hospital to the morgue and registered a case.

The SHO said Yasmeen, who had been working at Latif's house for the last six months or so, opened the gate and gave access to her four accomplices.

She escaped along with her four accomplices soon after the incident, Siddique said, adding that the police conducted raids at Sattokatla village and picked up the woman and her one accomplice who confessed to the crime.

Sources, however, said police also detained two other suspects Mukhtar and Sharif.

Around a week ago, robbers also struck a house and looted a couple at their doorstep in D-III and F-II blocks of Wapda Town.
