Robbers strike during match RAWALPINDI, March 30: Three masked men entered into a house while its inmates were watching the cricket World Cup semi-final on Wednesday and took away saving certificates of one million rupees, gold ornaments and cash.

Abid Nadeem was watching the Pakistan, India match on television along with his family when three gunmen wearing masks entered into the house and pulled out their guns. They held the inmates hostage and forced them to give them the keys of the cupboards and the locker.

After searching the cupboards, the robbers fetched saving certificates worth one million rupees, gold ornaments weighing 10 tolas and Rs50,000 in cash and later escaped from the scene.

Earlier, four unidentified gunmen broke into the house of Muhammad Naeem in the Banni police area and robbed 20,000 Euro, gold jewellery weighing 20 tolas, Rs100,000 in cash and two pistols. — Staff Reporter

Stray bullets hit three RAWALPINDI, March 30: A woman and two men were critically injured after they were hit by stray bullets as police could not check cricket lovers from firing in jubilation during world cup semi-final between Pakistan and India on Wednesday.

Otherwise no untoward incident was reported after city administration had enhanced patrolling set up special pickets in different parts of the garrison city.

Ms Pasha, in her early 40,s was brought to the District Headquarters Hospital with bullet injury.

She in her statement said she was sitting in the court yard of her house when a stray bullet hit her. The injured victim was removed to the hospital where she is stated to be in stable condition.

Mohammad Shafiq was on his way home in Chaklala Housing Scheme II when he was hit by a stray bullet.

The victim was removed to the DHQ hospital where he is stated to be in stable condition.

Yet another man with bullet injury was removed to the hospital. He was standing outside his home in Dhoke Ratta when a stray bullet hit him. According to doctors, the injured was in stable condition.— Staff Reporter

Cattle pens, shopkeepers fined RAWALPINDI, March 30: Two cattle pens were imposed fine of Rs14,000 while Rs18,000 fine was imposed on 18 shopkeepers by the Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) here on Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, the RTMA staff removed two illegal cattle pens at Bangish Colony and took seven buffalos in their custody. He said that the milch animals were handed over to their owners after receing the fine.

He said that the RTMA enforcement staff warned the owners to remove their pens out of the residential areas within a week otherwise stern action would be taken against them.

He said that the RTMA started the campaign against the cattle pens in the residential areas as it received complaints from Pirwadhai, Hazara Colony, Fauji Colony, Dhoke Hassu, Dhoke Kala Khan and adjoining areas that the cattle pens in residential areas were creating sanitation problems.

He claimed that the RTMA staff also removed encroachments from Benazir Bhutto Road, Saidpur Road, Jinnah Road, Liaquat Road and Commercial Market and imposed fine on 18 shopkeepers who had displayed their merchandise on the footpaths and the roadsides.— A Reporter

Special committees TAXILA, March 30: Special committees would be formed to monitor the performance of the traffic wardens in Taxila and Wah.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Mohammad Azam said this while talking to newsmen here at the office of Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Taxila circle on Tuesday after holding a meeting with traders, transporters and politicians of the area to discuss traffic problems in the city. On the occasion, he issued instructions to form special monitoring committees headed by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Taxila circle Raja Taifour Akhter to review the performance of traffic wardens deputed in Taxila and Wah Cantonment. —Correspondent
