KARACHI: Pakistan cueists Muhammad Sajjad and Imran Shehzad marked their second wins in IBSF World Snooker Championship after impressive victories over their respective opponents in Damascus (Syria).
Asian number two Sajjad showed brilliant cue control as he overcame Alain Vandersteen of Belgium 4-2. After winning the opening frame in a commanding fashion, Sajjad faced strong resistance from his opponent.
Sajjad, who had the honor of registering a century break in his opening match, lost in the last 32 of the world championship last year in Hyderabad (India). Belgian Vandersteen potting smartly leveled the terms 2-2. However Sajjad proved too good in the last two frames to carve out a 129-04, 29-76, 86-09, 42-73, 83-20, 81-33 victory.
Pakistan number one Imran Shahzad dropped the third frame before out-potting Faaris Khan of South Africa 4-1. Imran, appearing in his second global event, kept his rival under pressure with tactical potting to register a 67-40, 95-08, 46-60, 109-60, 89-18 win.
IBSF has made some changes in the schedule of the competition. As per the new programme, Muhammad Sajjad will meet Janne Hakkinen of Finland,Sohail Shahzad will take on Lin Tan Ho of Hong Kong and Imran Shahzad will face Franz Stahli of Switzerland on Thursday.
