KARACHI, Feb 9: The Sindh government has launched a self-employment scheme for university postgraduates to help them set up small businesses with bank financing.

The Sindh youth affairs department, in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), organised a seminar at Karachi University on youth entrepreneurship to apprise the students of the self- employment scheme.

The seminar was presided over by Youth Affairs Secretary Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi.

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Sindh chief Muslim Raza said that his organisation would extend help to youths, who come forward with any feasible idea to start a small business.

Shoaib Siddiqi said that the Sindh youth affairs department would hold 12 seminars on youth entrepreneurship in major cities to groom and guide youths with equal balance of resource sharing.

Under the programme, youths would also be trained on how to prepare a feasibility study for running a small business.

The Smeda will arrange bank financing for selected studies.

Dean faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences of the Karachi University Prof Dr Abuzar Wajidi thanked the Sindh government for choosing Karachi University to hold the first seminar on youth entrepreneurships.

Manager Shell Tameer Live Wire Trust Imran Azeem also spoke.

The seminar was attended by over 250 students who were asked to apply through the Smeda website with details of their proposed business plans. Their requests would be studied and students with practical feasibility studies would be called for training which would be followed with bank financing required for starting a business.
