GUJRANWALA, Jan 13: A Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team from Lahore raided six bank branches in the city on Tuesday and took the record into custody in connection with Khanani and Kalia scam.

The team also arrested two men -- Sheraz Mughal and Shakeel Ahmad -- on charges of opening bogus accounts and illegal transaction of dollars.

Reports said an FIA team, led by assistant-director Aqeel Ahmad Qureshi, raided branches of MCB, Allied and Habib banks at Bank Square and took the record into custody.

Sheraz and Shakeel told the FIA team that they were bank employees. They said the bank administration asked them to open their accounts from where it conducted transactions.

DISQUALIFIED: The Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, through a notification on Tuesday, disqualified 21 teachers from supervising secondary school certificate and intermediate annual and supplementary exams and sacked four daily-wager clerks on charges of irregularities.

Board chairman Muhammad Akram Chaudhry said 13 teachers out of 21 were disqualified permanently from exam duty, two for five years, five for three years and one for a year.

He said the disqualified included five female teachers, two lecturers and 14 male teachers. Four BISE clerks were dismissed from service for changing answer sheets of candidates to benefit them.

He said efficient teachers would be deputed for supervision of examinations.
