HYDERABAD, Dec 4: The Khebrani Forest Protection Committee of Indus Development Organisation on Thursday held a demonstration outside the press club against land-grabbers who cut down trees in the forest to occupy state land.

The committee’s president Basheer Ahmed Khebar and others said that the organisation was busy planting trees in Khebrani and Rais Mureed forests in Matiari district to rehabilitate the forests but some influential people of the area were neutralising their efforts by cutting down trees to grab forest land.

They said that they had filed written complaints with the Khebrani police in cooperation with the forest department but so far police had not taken action against the land-grabbers.

They demanded that the lease policy, which was enemy of forests, should be revoked and the forests should be handed over to local people.
