HYDERABAD, Nov 19: Plans to establish an environment university will go a long way in helping not only students but also officials of the related department, said Sindh minister for Environment Askari Taqvi.

He said this during a meeting with District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on Tuesday adding that en environment cell would also be set up for creating awareness against environmental pollution among people.

Nazim Kanwar Jamil said that a meeting would soon be convened to discuss environmental problems and find ways to reduce pollution. He also informed that a seminar would be held next month.

He said that the district government had constructed few filter plants in limited resources to provide clean drinking water to public.

Construction of flyovers, bridges and parks and renovation of the existing ones were part of the exercise of the district administration, he said.

The Forest Department under the ‘Green Hyderabad Programme’ had launched a tree plantation campaign at the coast of Rs20 million with the support of district government with efforts underway for scientific disposal of solid waste, said the Nazim.

These steps along with northern and southern treatment plants will ease pollution problem, he said.

The meeting was attended by DCO Hyderabad Ali Ahmed Lund, Project Director Water Supply and Sewerage Project Qurban Ali Shah Bukhari, Project Director HDP Syed Faraz Ali Shah, Water Technologist Dr Ahsan Siddiqui and other concerned officials of the district government and elected representatives.

BAN IMPOSED: District Nazim Hyderabad, Kanwar Naveed Jamil under section 144 CrPC has banned the entry of unconcerned persons in and around the Government High School No. 1 near Circular Building where final semester examinations of Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad are being held from Thursday.

No unauthorised person will be allowed to move about within 200 yards of the examination centre.
