Dr Akhtar among top ten women in Asia

Published November 11, 2008

KARACHI, Nov 10: State Bank of Pakistan Governor Dr Shamshad Akhtar has been named amongst the top ten women leaders in Asia by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The WSJ Asia has compiled a list of Asia-based women, focusing on those who are having an impact on business now or who will be influential in the years ahead.

“Shamshad Akhtar is better positioned than most to tackle the country’s mammoth economic challenges,” the journal wrote while announcing its decision on Monday.

“She doesn’t lack for backbone, either. Ms. Akhtar is known for speaking her mind,” it said.

Dr Akhtar is a former economist with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, so she doesn’t lack for experience, it added.
