Whirl Wind tipped to rise at Karachi races today
By Anwar Zuberi
KARACHI, Oct 11: Three-year-old bay colt Whirl Wind, who is making his appearance after a layoff, is tipped to rise to the occasion and make it two wins on the trot in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
After failing to appear on the board in several runs he caught the eye galloping to a facile seven-length victory over Play Boy under rider Manzoor on July 27 to post his maiden win.
He is the day’s best bet and should present owner Irfan Mehdi with second win of the year. Only filly Novaho’s Glory comes in the reckoning in a small field of seven runners to pose him some challenge.
Three-year-old bay filly Blossom, who settled for third in The Defence Day Cup, should produce her best to land the feature event, the six furlongs concluding race of the day. She had to her credit four wins, including a hat-trick, and was placed thrice in the previous eight outings.
Though there are a couple of good horses in the fray but on form Blossom looks certain to make amends. She should be chased by Taiz Per and Bacaradi for the places.
On recent performance, three-year-old colt Sayeen Jee enjoys good credentials to land the sixth race which is also supporting event. Following his win last weekend, he is on course to make it two-in-a-row.
He is likely to be chased by Speed Of Arab in a field of seven runners. Mare Blind Date who has been off-colour in the recent past may strike and upset the applecart.
Syed Ismail Shah’s Die-Na-Might who has performed amazingly recently but finished off the board in the last race look poised to topple the field. His likely challengers are Play Boy and Dilruba.
Filly Princess Zara is rated to make amends and land the opener while mare Marista should repeat her winning feat in the next.
Either of two Jadu Jantar or Hilal Tob from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara should shine in the third race.
A card of seven races, two going over six furlongs and the remaining to five, has been drawn for the day. The first race starts at 1.30pm.
